The Hottest New Trend in Natural Facelifting Devices
Using Ancient Acupuncture Principles in a New Way
As a natural health researcher and writer, I tend to watch various health and beauty market segments. Over the past year, I’ve seen a rather sudden jump in the appearance of derma rollers on the market. Derma rollers, also known as microneedle rollers or skin rollers, are small, hand held devices with a handle attached to a small roller that has multiple, dense micro needles (usually surgical steel) on it. While I knew that you rolled the device over your skin, I really wasn’t sure why they’d become one of the hottest new trends in natural facelifting devices. So, of course, I just had to research it, right?
As it turns out, and as many of you may have already figured out, microneedling the face has its roots in ancient acupuncture techniques. Makes sense. That information helped validate the whole concept of derma rollers for me since I’ve become very comfortable with acupuncture, having experienced its remarkable healing results many times over.
Derma rollers essentially “part” your facial skin/pores and gently reach the inner surface of your skin to promote skin repair. Without causing skin damage, derma rollers stimulate the skin’s collagen and elastin production.
In different words, rolling derma rollers back and forth over your skin creates tiny openings in the upper layer of the dermis. When this happens, the skin launches into a healing process which means it starts producing collagen and elastin, substances that are required to maintain firm, healthy, wrinkle-free skin. Since our collagen and elastin production decreases with age, well, we wrinkle up and sag down. Derma rollers are here to address that.
Aside from stimulating collagen and elastin production, another of the alleged benefits of using one of these natural facelift devices is that following treatment, facial creams can be absorbed more deeply into the skin. Since our skin absorbs roughly 60% of whatever we put on it, derma rollers conceivably offer the opportunity for considerably greater absorption of nutrient dense facial products as well.
While originally promoted as an anti-wrinkle/anti-aging natural facelifting device, derma rollers further research yielded some rather remarkable results when applied to other body part skin problems. Success has been shown using derma rollers for stretch marks, cellulite reduction, acne scar and scar removal and treatment. These rollers have also shown to be effective for hair loss, thinning hair and hair restoration. Amazing.
These nifty little rollers are available in different needle lengths and knowing the right size for your own skin condition/s is important. Here’s a short breakdown on choosing needle lengths:
-.05mm is recommended for anti-aging, wrinkles, light acne scarring and thinning hair and is a good roller size to start with.
- 1.0mm, 1.5mm is recommended for deep stretch marks, cellulite and deep scaring. 1.5 is the longest needle length recommended for the face.
- 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm is recommended for severe skin conditions like seriously damaged skin, deep wrinkles and scars.
Aside from the ability to restore damaged skin on both the face and the body, derma rollers are portable, small and relatively inexpensive. You can use them in your own home at your own convenience.
Before you purchase one of these facelifting devices, there are a couple of caveats: a few manufacturers of these devices caution people to expect some potentially mild discomfort and redness after a treatment. If you have any serious medical conditions, it’s wise to check with your own physician prior to use.
From a common sense standpoint, it just makes good sense to proceed slowly at first. For example, if you’re one of those people that has very sensitive skin, these products may just not be right for you. Or you could choose to start on another part of your body first before trying the device on your face. You know yourself and your skin better than anyone else. So, as with all things new, use good judgement.
In summary and given the rather remarkable results derma rollers can potentially offer, I’d definitely say they’re worth consideration. If you'd like to know more about the specifics of using derma rollers just CLICK HERE.
